Objective:To evaluate the psycho-social determinants in the patients with social anxiety disorder.Method:Five patients with social anxiety disorder were in-depth interviewed by semi-structural questionnaire. The data were categorized with/by using analytical principles required in the grounded theory.Results:Six dimensions of determinants were found. They were determinants of developmental history, cognitive causes, learning causes, traumatic experience, stressful events and the economic status. Some factors in the determinants, such as the parenting style, temperament, thinking pattern, self-esteem, self-consciousness, the inter-personal relationship of parents or intimate friends ,and early traumatic exposure strongly liaisoning with the formation of social anxiety disorder.Conclusion:1. The developmental history were the most important determinants, including negative parenting style, and the introverted and nervousness temperament.2. Cognition development: negative expectancy for the social situation was dominant pattern of thinking in the patients.3. Learning experience: Similar pattern of inter-personal relationship of their parents and their intimate friends was found in the patients..4. Traumatic exposure negligence by family,, domestic violence, physical diseases during childhood or being insulted by schoolmates strongly influenced the patients. 5. Stressful events: the change of the surrounding of study and employment, and the humiliating experience could fire up the social anxiety.6. Lower economic status might increase the embarrassment for the patients communicating with people.
