This article emphatically studies the teacher system in higher education in America. On the basis of analyzing longitudinal history evolution of the teacher system and the different types of teacher system in American higher education, the article elaborates various types of teacher system, induces its characteristics, then points out the teacher system existent merits and demerits. based on the analysis of the Chinese teacher system in higher education, we can conclude the advantages of the system in America should be drawn upon and demerits should be avoided. This main body part of the thesis includes the following several parts:Part I, The thesis introduces the historical evolution of teacher system in higher education in America. Since the founding of American higher school, the teacher system has already experienced three stages such as: initial stage, formative stage and developmental phase, and mature and perfect stage. .Each stage division all has the concrete historical event as a standard. The first time boundary was in 1721 when Harvard University established first professor position and the second time boundary was in 1915 the AAUP establishment. In this part, background and the characteristics of the each stage universities teacher system has been remarked separately.Part II, The thesis introduces the teacher system in various types of American teacher system in higher education. The institutions of higher education in America are simply divided into three types: Researching Universities, Teaching colleges, and Community colleges in light of specific functions of individual higher school. In this chapter, the author elaborates its characteristics and corresponding teaching system.Part III, The thesis introduces teacher system in higher education in America. The first two chapters are from the vertical and horizontal analysis of the teacher system. In this chapter, it is a total system analysis of institution of higher education in America. This chapter analyzes the characteristics of teacher system in America, including specific strengths and weaknesses, and finds out the causes.In conclusion, the thesis introduces the enlightenment of American teacher system. This part elaborates historical evolution of Chinese universities teacher system, and analyzes its characteristics and the functions of each different time. In this foundation, author elaborates the merits of teacher system in higher education in America, and includes some experience to our teacher system reform. We should base ourselves on the actual situation, learn the advanced experience of teacher system in institution of higher education in America reasonably, absorbing merits and avoiding the shortcoming. We should use it to instruct the reform of the domestic teacher system purposefully.
