Shandong Province, as a strong province of sports, boasts a relatively rapid development of the undertakings of physical culture and sports, thus demanding a large number of high quality sports professionals to finish the various tasks as to P.E. teachers, researches, management, training and guidance to social sports as well. The practical question we are facing is that under the current circumstances we need what kind of sports talents, and if there are any special requirements in terms of quantity and quality. As the major supporting force for the undertakings of physical culture and sports in Shangdong Province, all the colleges and schools of physical education in Shandong bear an important responsibility of providing all sorts of sport talents for the undertakings of physical culture and sports in Shandong. Whether the quantity and quality of the sport talents cultivated in the colleges of physical education satisfy the demand of the development of the undertakings of physical culture and sports in Shangdong Province, has become a theoretical and practical concern for the colleges of P.E. and the education management section.By means of reference to literature, questionnaire, interviews, and mathematical statistics, this paper analyzes the present situation of demands for and training of sport talents in Shandong, based on the study of a large number of books and over 40 theses on training of sport talents. Questions as well as suggestions are put forward in this process. This study contends that the current situation of sport talents in Shandong is that sport talents have been oversupplied in terms of quantity, but cannot meet the demands of the enterprises in terms of variety and quality; the economic situation and the old ideology have negatively affected the attraction of sport talents in underdeveloped areas, compared with the overcrowdedness of P.E. teachers in developed areas. The blind expansion of enrollment caused an oversupply of talents, resulting in an inability of adapting to the present need for the development of social sports and mass sports. High quantity and low quality are characteristic of the current situation of training sport talents.
