| New course standard requires us to cultivate students'reading competence. To carry it out, enlarging students'vocabulary should come first. Traditional vocabulary teaching has some disadvantages, which cannot promote students'learning motivation efficiently.Various studies have found that motivation is very strongly related to achievement in language learning. It's no doubt that motivation is a key to learning English. Motivation is commonly thought of as an inner drive, impulse emotion or desire that move one into a particular action. It's important to emphasis that motivation is more than simply arousing interest. It also involves sustaining that interest and investing time and energy into putting in the necessary effort to achieve certain goals. In order to promote students'learning motivation, different kinds of teaching methods, teaching tools, teaching activities as well as related tests or dictations are used in the experimental class.The first procedure is to promote students'intrinsic motivation, the teaching methods, such as brainstorming, word association, word formation, the teaching tools, including using multi-media , pictures and real objects, the teaching activities, are explained in detail in presenting new vocabularies. These methods motivate students to think, to explore, to act. The second procedure shows how to promote students'extrinsic motivation when remembering the words and phrases they learned."Ebbinghause Forgetting Curve"indicates that it's quick first and then slow to forget what we learned, so remembering or revising in time is the best way to master the knowledge. Compared with the traditional remembering ways, that is , simply repeating or reciting one word after another, word dictations, word competitions not only motivates the students extrinsically, but makes the vocabulary learning full of life and creativity. The purpose of vocabulary learning is to enlarge the students'vocabulary and improve their reading ability. Therefore, the final learning process is some related word exercises or reading comprehensions. Quick feedback is also necessary to reinforce the students'memory.In this paper, the teaching methods, teaching patterns, teaching principles are explained in detail. In the procedures of the experiment, some teaching samples are applied. For data collection and analysis, it has proved that experimental students have benefited because of promotion of their learning motivation. |
