| The preceding presentation has broken new ground on researching the teaching of English at the Middle School level. As this research develops further, experts and teachers are worrying more about such problems as the content of course designs, the inadequacy of teacher resources, and the lack of equipment and facilities. These defects effect the teaching of the middle school English, to the point where real world task-based language teaching is put at risk. This paper contains five chapters:Chapter One is research orientated, treating the target for this research, the rationale for its study and some key research questions.Chapter Two presents some general theories related to tasks and TBLT, including the definitions and characteristics of tasks, components of a task, theoretical basis of a task, features of TBLT and so on.Chapter Three discusses the real world task-based language teaching from three aspects, bearing in mind the current situation of language teaching in middle school. These aspects are: (a) Designing a student centred real-world course, (b) Examining classroom procedures for this course, and (c) Setting out assessment procedures for this course.Chapter Four discusses the application of real-world task-based language teaching in senior high schools. A study was conducted in an experimental class with feedback sought by means of a questionnaire.Chapter Five analyzes the answers to the questionnaire, and studies the implications of this real-world task-based language teaching approach for any foreign language teaching in senior high schools. This study has analyzed the various methods in use over the past twenty years and reports accurately on their merits and deficiencies. The Guidelines of the New National Criteria for English Curriculum Standard course in the Middle School have been considered and a sound rationale for the study has been presented, including the key research procedures and how they were organized. It also presents practical tests, the results of which are presented in a tabulated format in support of this new method of teaching/learning. It postulates that the method of real-world task-based language teaching [TBLT] in Middle School English classroom, has the best methodology to implement the criteria standard as outlined by the National Education Department. It takes due cognizance of the roles played by the teacher and the students in being selective as to what is of value and where the material can be ascertained. The use of the proposed real world TBLT is an ideal way to achieve these ends.Due emphasis has been given to the motivation of both teacher and student, the fundamental goal being the holistic development and welfare of the student. |
