This paper investigates religious academy under the influence of Chinese and western culture, so as to show the evolvement of religious academy between 1820s and early 20th century, and analyze how it has undergone various reforms and changes, which existed from the very beginning to the ending, facing conflicts and integration between Chinese and western culture. Yielded when Western learning was progressively spreading to the East, religious academy possesses features of western schools, but while when features confronted Chinese background, would it comprise or blend into it? This is what this paper tries to study. This paper is divided into five chapters, respectively:The first chapter is introduction, mainly about propositional meaning and literature review. The second chapter chiefly elaborates the general situation of religious academy education. And the historical background of the integration between the two cultures was presented, and how the religious academy came into being was studied. Meanwhile, this paper gives examples about the features of early religious academy, and studies how religious school evolves into religious academy in its name and contents. The third chapter mainly analyze the changes religious academy has taken under the integration of Chinese and western culture. Firstly, the development of religious academy is presented: after a series of big events, such as Opium War, preachers'assembly and academy reform, religious academy reveals its own phased characters. These characters are closely related to Chinese and western cultural conflicts, against which there also exists cultural integration. Under conflicts and integration, religious academy keeps growing, conflicts in integration, and integration in conflicts, while integration is the mainstream, which lies in that religious academy continuously absorbs Chinese cultural from various levels, consciously or unconsciously. The forth chapter mainly analyze the features of religious academy under the integration of Chinese of western culture, from curriculum Structure, distinguishing features and financial recourses. Since it's a unique historical product, a unique form of teaching, it carries with it western style. The fifth chapter discusses, from a broader sense, how the religious academy influences China, mainly on traditional Chinese academy and ordinary people. In the end, the paper gives a brief summary about the termination of religious academy.Based on studies of predecessors, in the above five chapters, the author try something new from the following three aspects: first, religious academy is defined as a medium or above medium educational organization. Its establishment goes through a gradual process and has a lot to do with early academy schools. Second, under the blending of Chinese and western culture, there are conflicts as well as integration between religious academy and Chinese culture, but integration is the mainstream, which is proved that after taking in Chinese culture, religious academy keeps changing and adjusting itself. The influence of Chinese culture is ubiquitous in religious academy. Third, since cultural exchange is two-way process, religious academy also exerts deep effects on China, to be specific, on ordinary Chinese people and on traditional Chinese academy, which is a big topic of this paper as well. Influenced by religious academy, traditional academy conducts several reforms, and the Chinese masses, from bottom to top, dramatically changed their views about religious academy.
