The traditional English reading instruction is characterized by emphasizing learning language knowledge, taking words, sentences and grammar as the dominant factors and separating the language form and culture. Accordingly it leads to students'incorrect receiving of reading materials for lack of cultural knowledge. In view of the above, English reading teaching in middle school shouldn't be pure practice in language and skills separated from cultural environment but should pay more attention to the relationship between language and culture.Thus English teachers should make great efforts to cultivate students'cultural awareness. However, in SEFC reading teaching practice, little attention has been paid to the cultural connotation of the language, both teachers and students are poor in cultural awareness. In view of the current situation in SEFC reading teaching practice, the writer of this paper is about to expore the principles and methods of the culture-loaded teaching. In the hope of finding the way to cultivate students'cultural awareness and communicative competence along with students'linguistic competence, the writer has also carried out some experiments through her own teaching practice to see to it that these methods are applicable and efficient. The experiments show that culture-loaded reading teaching helps students develop both their language competence and reading ability.The target of study in my thesis is SEFC reading teaching. Literature review, interview method, action research, versus analytical method were applied to my thesis. First, the paper takes the documentation method to review the achievements on culture teaching at home and abroad.Then through the method of classroom observation, interviewing teachers and students, the paper helps to reveal the present situation of building the students' cultural awareness building in senior high school. At last some relevant implications are concluded, which aims at providing some guidance for cultivating English culture awareness in senior high school.The main body consists of four parts:Part one is the intorduction part. It provides the background for choosing the topic, the research questions. According to the analysis of current situations in SEFC reading teaching, the part shows the necessity of cultivating cultural awareness.Part two is literature review. First, this part makes sure of the definition of language and culture. Second, refers back to related achievements on cultivating cultural awareness at home and abroad.Part three is the content of cultivating cultural awareness in reading instruction and requirement according to the new curriculum criterion.Part four is the hardcore of my thesis. By carrying out some experiments through my own teaching practice, principles and methods of the culture-loaded teaching have been explored, and in terms of comparative analysis of new and old teaching models, a conclusion are drawn.At last I build a new teaching model of cultivating students'cultural awareness in SEFC reading teaching.
