Language is the most important tool for human being to think and communicate, as well as the essential requirement for social activities. Langue is the load and reflection of national culture. Therefore, without understanding the national culture in which the language is used, one cannot really master this language. The general objective of the English teaching in high school is to cultivate the integrated language skills. Cultural knowledge teaching is playing an important role in language teaching.Cultural understanding and cross-cultural communicative ability has been described in the New English Curriculum Standard. It requires that teachers in high school should broaden the students'cultural version and develop their awareness of cross-culture communication. English, as a foreign language in China, should be regarded not as a resource for learning foreign culture, but also as a means of cultural interaction. Accordingly, English teachers in high school also faced the challenge of exploring means of culture teaching.The foreign language teaching and training should be taught in the background of culture. And cultivating culture awareness is one of the course goals in high school English teaching. Cultural awareness is the component of the integrated language skills, including cultural knowledge, cultural understanding, cross-cultural awareness and cross-cultural communication. Cultivating cultural awareness in high school English teaching will help students broaden their horizon, improve their humanities, and motivate their interest in learning English.This paper intends to investigate and analyze the present situation of middle school students'cultural awareness in leaning English, explore the proper principles of culture teaching, disuse suitable teaching materials and content, and establish the focus of teaching culture. It also attempts to analyze the apaches of how to develop culture teaching in high school from three perspectives. The teaching should play suitable roles in culture teaching, and provide more opportunities for students to touch the culture. In such process, the teacher also need to pay attention the students'mental experience, and help them increase their cultural awareness and develop their cross-culture ability. It also for chance to teachers reflect their teaching practice and solve their own problems in cultivating and develop students'cultural awareness.
