Listening teaching is an important part of English teaching in Senior High school. People have paid wide attention to it since 2001, when listening was regarded as an important part of the national entrance examination. Meanwhile, the current situation of English listening teaching in Senior High is not satisfactory. The listening teaching is still conducted in a traditional way: listening, doing exercises and then checking of the answers. According to Sheerin (1987), this traditional English listening class is not teaching listening but testing listening. That is, many teachers take listening teaching class for listening testing class because of NMET. As a result, the students may gradually lose their interest in listening after a long time.New English Curriculum Standard for the Senior Middle School (2003) advocates the task-based approach. It starts with the students'interest, experience and their cognition. It can also make the communicative process meaningful by way of different meaningful tasks. Therefore, TBLT put emphasis on the learning process, which stirs up the students'inner motivation with the help of their teachers, the students can achieve their goal and enjoy the success by experiencing, practising and cooperating.Based upon the above analysis, the author tries to apply TBLT to listening teaching in Senior High, exploring the basic teaching mode: TBLT Listening Teaching. It discusses three stages of task-based listening comprehension teaching, which is the focal point of this thesis as well. In this part the author makes efforts to design meaningful tasks in different levels with the same material to meet the needs of different learners.In order to identify the effect of the application of TBLT to listening teaching in Senior High, an empirical research was performed in Senior One, which lasted four and a half months. Finally, the results justified the author's hypotheses and the conclusion was drawn that application of TBLT to Listening teaching in Senior High is more effective than that of the traditional way:(1) the questionnaire survey before and after the experiment indicates that TBLT can excavate the students'interest in learning English Listening.(2) the related data analysis of both pre-test and post-test reveals that TBLT can improve the students'listening ability.
