This is a report on a study of reading strategies training for senior high school EFL students. By using both quantitative and qualitative research, the present study investigates the use of reading strategies employed by senior high school EFL students and the correlation between the reading strategies and reading proficiency of 127 senior high students in Xuancheng High School, Xuancheng, Anhui Province. In addition, it aims to find out the differences in the employment of reading strategies between successful and unsuccessful Chinese readers. The research lasts for 10 months with totally 127 students divided at random into 2 classes: one is the experiment class and the other the comparison class. The study has the following findings:Chinese middle school students generally do not have a strong sense of reading strategies and consequently do not employ reading strategies very frequently;1. There is a correlation between the use of English reading strategies and students' reading performance;2. There are some differences in the use of reading strategies between successful readers and unsuccessful readers—the former are capable of using more strategies with better results than the latter.3. Appropriate training in the use of English reading strategies can enhance students' reading proficiency effectively;Needless to say, due to the limitations of research conditions and my own ability, this study is in many ways very rudimentary. More research is yet to be done in the future.
