College Entrance Examination System is the most fair and square talent selection system in line with China's national conditions. The conflict between limited high education resources in particular limited high quality high education resources and the growing demand of enjoying high education equally does make the competition of College Entrance Examination quite fierce. However, over the past ten years, the competition has become vicious, which brings about serious consequences to the school education. For example, the primary and middle school students are overburdened with too much schoolwork, and they suffer from great psychological pressure. On the other hand, teachers have to be overloaded with hard work. New curriculum reform and burden-lightening are difficult to implement. National education goals have been seriously distorted. The high school education even the whole basic education has been greatly affected. In a word, vicious competition of College Entrance Examination has made the implementation of quality education in primary and middle schools an empty talk.Vicious competition in the National College Entrance Examination is a common phenomenon. As a large province, the vicious competition in the National College Entrance Examination of Shandong has been intensified. To achieve the goal set for the College Entrance Examination, the competition team composed of 17 city education bureaus and their administering schools has gone too far. The study attempts to give a comprehensive analysis of the vicious competition in College Entrance Examination of Shandong Province through literature analysis, investigation, comparison to explore a more scientific and practical solution.The thesis consists of four parts:The first part mainly discussed the basic theory of National College Entrance Examination and defines the concept of vicious competition in National College Entrance Examination. Beginning with the widespread competition phenomenon in human society, at first the author clarified the meaning of competition in College Entrance Examination, the main components and the inevitability of competition.Then based on the fostering objective of primary and middle schools as well as the present situation in College Entrance Examination competition, the author defined vicious competition from five aspects. That is, vicious competition in College Entrance Examination competition is the one which goes against the national education goals and fostering objectives and does great harm to high school education in hope of achieving the aim.The second part mainly elaborated the representations of vicious competition in College Entrance Examination of Shandong Province. Based on the investigation into the present situation of high school education throughout Shandong Province, the author summarized eight representations of vicious competition, that is, disorderly high school enrollment system, extension of students'time for study, shrinking national curriculum, combination of plentiful exercises tactics and ranking students based on their exam results, class-reorganization and students-redirection, enrolling students resuming their studies after graduation to increase enrollment rates, distorted strong suit education and neglecting students'comprehensive development in family education.The third part mainly analyzes the reasons for the vicious competition. Vicious competition in College Entrance Examination of Shandong Province is not only a simple education problem, but a complex social one. Many factors, including traditional ideological education, the current socio-economic, education and population status quo, "concept on achievements" prevalent in all walks of life, the universal utility of the expectations of the college entrance examination in Shandong Province, have led to the vicious competition.The fourth part combined the predecessor's research results to explore countermeasures against vicious competition. The author attempted to put forward countermeasures from six aspects, that is, reforming College Entrance Examination enrollment system of Shandong Province, transforming the functions of educational administration, setting up scientific concept on educational achievements, reforming teaching and studying evaluation criteria, guiding and regulating family and social education, strengthening higher education of Shandong Province, achieving the goals of diversified higher education and taking the road of lifelong education.
