In the present study, the motivational components of junior middle school students are studied and some strategies are adopted to improve these controllable motivational components. The motivational components that affect middle school students are teaching style, teaching efficiency, tasks complexity, task valence, classroom climate, interests, effort and orientations (integrative and instrumental). Controllable motivational components of junior middle school students found in the study are teaching style, teaching efficiency, tasks complexity, task valence, classroom climate, interests, effort and integrative orientations, but the instrumental orientations are uncontrollable. After the qualitative and quantitative study, it is demonstrated that attribution training, enhancing intrinsic motivation and providing extrinsic incentives to learn, cooperative learning, effects of teacher expectations, and task-based approach can change these controllable motivational components.There are six chapters in the present study:The first chapter is introduction, in which it mainly states the need for the present study.The second chapter is literature review, in which it discusses importance of motivation, definition of motivation, classification of motivation, components of motivation and some theories relating to motivation.The third chapter is methodology, in which research questions and hypothesis are proposed. Something about subjects, instruments and data-collection are introduced. The fourth chapter is the analysis of quantitative data, in which research questions and hypothesis are answered. The motivational components of junior middle school students are founded.The fifth chapter is implication, in which strategies to motivate English learning are recommended.The sixth chapter is conclusion, in which the result and the limitations of this study are presented.
