On The Faculty Preparation In American Higher Education Institutions

American universities focus on strengthening undergraduate education in recent years. The form of development of college teachers has taken place tremendous changes:universities increased demand for new teachers, doctoral education did not competent teachers training task, graduate teaching assistants in the existing system also did not meet the requirements of teacher training. In such a backdrop of the times, the Pew Charitable Trusts Foundation Initiated and funded launched, and the Association of American Colleges and Universities, and the Council of Graduate Schools held a joint proposal called Preparing Future Faculty since 1993. The thesis analyzes the background of PFF, the target of the project, implementation of the process, the measures, the effect and the challenges of this project, with a view for our Chinese universities to learn from the teachers training of America.The thesis consists of six parts:Preface: Mainly introduce the significance of the topic, the present situation of the problem and the methods of the research.Chapter 1: The development backgrounds of Preparing Future Faculty are analyzed through a large number of new teachers inflexed into the academic career, doctoral education did not competent the teachers training task, and graduate teaching assistants in the existing system also did not meet the requirements of new teachers.Chapter 2: The target of the project, the process of the PFF implementation, and the measures are analyzed.Chapter 3: There American universities for example to explain the situation, including Boston College, University of Maryland and University of Michigan.Chapter 4: Sum up the effect and the challenges of this project. Although PFF achieved considerable effectiveness, some difficulties still need to solute.Chapter 5: According to the above study, some references for Chinese universities are putted forward.
