The Research On American Preparing Future Faculty Program

In 1993, the Association of American Colleges and Universities and the Council of Graduate Schools launched a doctoral program called"preparing future faculty", which could help doctoral students understand of the roles of the faculty,enforce their interests in faculty career, improve their competitions of job search. Since 1993,it has got great effect not only on the training of faculty,but also on doctoral education.Since the late of 1990s, chinese doctoral education realized the historical span, and trained lots of excellent academic talents. But Chinese doctoral education has paid more attention on academic research, it neglected the training of future faculty in higher university.Through analysing on American Preparing Future Faculty program, it has some enlightenments on training of young faculty in our doctoral education.The paper is divided into five parts as following:Forword: it explains the cause of the study,sums up the literature, introduces the train of thought and research methods of the study.The second part deals with the backgroud of setting up the PFF program,focusing on the problems of doctoral education and the change on the teacher system.The third part discusses the enforcement of the PFF program.The first round of enforcement concludes: four phases and different feedbacks. The second round of enforcement focuses on Howard University and Duke university.The fourth part discusses the evaluation on PFF program. It has some characters and great effects.The fifth part is the inspirations on our development of faculty. It aims at current training of doctor education and problems of academic profession in our country, the PFF program can have some enlightenments for traning our faculty:the government should set up relative police to promote the enforcement of doctors'abilities of teaching;to implement the system of teaching tutor;to guarantee the Training funds;to establish the system of teaching practice.
