The research of Shan of Burma is not only a important component of international Thai Study, and an indispensable sector of Ethnology and Anthropology research of the world as well. So far, to the question of the origin of Shan people, there are many opinions. However, they can generally be summed up into two main schools-aboriginal origin and migration. This thesis aims at separately analyze this two schools, and finalize the right opinion. This thesis has been divided into five sections. The first section is about the basic introduction of Shan people, the relationship between Shan people and Chinese Dai people, and the purpose and meaning of Shan study. The content of second part is the reason, the current condition, and the methods of Shan people's origin study. In the third part, I concentrate in screening and re-organizing the current various standpoints of Shan origin. The forth part is of analyzing and pinpointing the arguments presenting by the various standpoints, combining with information collected in the field works carried by author of this thesis, by employing historical data analyzing method, language comparing and analyzing method, to certify the truth or false of various arguments of different opinions in question of Shan people's origin, to refute the wrong opinions of Shan people's origin. The final section is of he summary of study of Shan people's origin, stressing the Shan people originating from Chinese ancient "Yue" people.
