There are three branches of the Dai nationality living in Mengla Township Miao, Yao and Dai Autonomous County of Honghe Jinping which called "Tai Khao","Lue" and "Man Zhang". In spite of the differences between source, language, customs and life, they were all identified as the Dai nationality.Lacking of literature about the Dai nationality of Jinping, on the basis of combing the research about the origin of the Dai, combined with field survey methods, the paper explores the history origin of the three branches in Mengla. During the period of Tang-Song Dynasty, Tai Khao has been living around the China-Vietnam border area. The main part of Tai Khao has been moved from Vietnam at last in late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, and with constantly fusion with the local and other ethnic migration, they formed the first ethnic group reaching the Mengla. Lue and Man Zhang migrated to Mengla within about one hundred or two hundred years. Lue migrated to here from Xi Shuang Ban Na, but stayed in Vietnam for a long time and then moved in Mengla. Man Zhang was the transfer from Vietnam. In turn, the paper discussed the ethnic relations in their history as well as changes in Ethnic Relations after they became a nation. From the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, as Tusi in Mengla, Tai Khao had the unequal relationship with Lue and Man Zhang. But after the national identification, they all have the same identity——the Dai, and the relationship between them changed, presenting a new relation of equality and unity. But the boundary between them still existed, they still maintain their own internal identity. The history of the collective memory becomes the foundation of the ethnic identity, but the real environment of the interests has become the main reason prompted some collective memory. Affected by the surrounding "mang people", with the hope of being divided into little nation, Man Zhang began to reconstruct their collective memory and look for their roots from Vietnam. They thought they were the Kang of Vietnam, and they began to gradually introduce ethnic costumes and dance of the Kang, digging their own uniqueness and drawing a line with the Tai Khao which is the main part of the Dai beside them. In recent years, due to the development of tourism, Mengla Township developed the "Water Splashing Festival" which once limited to Lue in Pu Er Zhai as a national holiday."Water Splashing Festival" became the symbol of the Dai in Mengla. Tai Khao, which had always been the dominance in the history of Mengla, began to close to Lue."Water Splashing Festival" has become the identified link of Tai Khao and Lue.Identity is influenced by fundamental identity and instrumental identity. Fundamental identity could not by changed easily. Instrumental identity could gradually deepen fundamental identity and ethnic relations forms and changes between the two forces, In this paper, it discusses the ethnic relations of a small area within the same people in different branches, this can also provide microscopic instances for the study of theory of the ethnic group.
