| The development of the writing ability is an important part in the English education in senior middle schools. However, according to the own teaching experience of the author and students' general performance in the writing of the College Entrance Examination, among the four important skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, writing is still a headache both to students and teachers. As an important part in writing teaching, the appraisal strategies and the effectiveness have an direct influence on the results of writing teaching and the improvement of students' writing ability, to which we should pay enough attention. Under the guidance of the theory of developmental evaluation, the focus of this paper is on the application and effectiveness of the following strategies: the incentive assessment, peer-evaluation and self-evaluation, the classification of marking standards and the portfolio assessment, which is combined to construct a new system of writing evaluation and advance the improvement of English education. The major results of the research are as follows: the application of the developmental evaluation can effectively arouse students' interest and motivation in English writing, develop their ability of self-reflection and self-correction and thus can generally increase their writing ability. However, the research also reveals some unsolved problems which remain to be studied in the future teaching practice. The author hopes that this paper can lay the solid foundation for further research in future. |
