With the development of education reform, English teaching and learning standards as well as demands for senior high school teachers and students have changed a lot. Researches on the new teaching and learning methods and strategies are carried out by many English teachers and experts, who have achieved remarkable results. However, the status quo of English class in our country is still time-consuming and inefficient. There is no exception to vocabulary teaching and learning in senior high school, to some degree, due to the long neglect of vocabulary in the field of second language acquisition as well as the lack of complete and efficient methods of vocabulary acquisition.For most language learners, the acquisition of vocabulary proved to be an important component of learning a foreign language. Large vocabulary plays an important role for learners to become proficient in learning a foreign language.However, most English teachers and students in China always take the misunderstanding that vocabulary teaching mean only the teaching of words itself but ignore the deepening and retention of words. But mastering a large amount of vocabulary doesn't necessarily means that the learner is successful, because some learners can not use or express vocabulary correctly naturally and efficiently, which turns out to be contradictory to the ultimate purpose of learning a foreign language that is to cultivate learners'practical competence for using language in practical situations.The writer has been devoted to education for ten years, and perplexed by teaching students how to learn English words for ten years .As is like other teachers and learners, the writer tries to make research for a good method to teach students.The writer of this paper has been initiated by a theoretical inspiration and a practical meaning. The theoretical inspiration comes from the application of corpus and Data-Driven Learning. The practical meaning lies in the great challenge of English vocabulary learning in senior high school .This essay mainly focuses on the practical use of corpus, which is an important branch in applied linguistics and its application to English vocabulary teaching and learning for senior high school students.According to the review of the researcher, the teaching method of DDL and corpus are more often used in the university, but seldom in the high school. However, with the development of Chinese society, the computer and multimedia overhead projector has been popularized in senior high school. Students in senior high school can completely handle computers and multimedia, which offer them capability to use corpus and the method of DDL to accomplish some English learning tasks. So the writer of this paper tries to introduce the new technology and new learning method into high school English teaching.Based on the above analysis, the author researched these problems through an experiment, which included two tests, a questionnaire to students and an interview of the teachers. Then after the experiment, the author recommends the approach for improving students'vocabulary learning in class. On the other hand, the author attempts to find the drawbacks in vocabulary teaching and learning, such as teaching vocabulary without sufficient explanation of the usage and cultural differences, inefficient ways to memorize words, inappropriate and improper use of vocabulary. Finally .the author put forward some relevant suggestions to improve vocabulary teaching and learning.
