Listening, as one of the four basic language skills, is an important part of English teaching and learning. At the same time, as an essential channel of language acquisition, listening is also a necessary means of language learning. In recent years, there have been deep researches on the nature of listening, the process of listening and the elements affecting the effectiveness of listening in the theoretical areas. However, the teaching of listening in most senior high schools still remains in the primitive stage of "playing the tape and checking the answers". Therefore, it should be an immediate concern for the language researchers and language teachers to construct a both effective and practical teaching model for listening comprehension. This thesis analyses the problems which exist in the present way of teaching listening in senior high schools, and makes a systematic study of listening theories, schema theories, and TBLT (task-based language teaching) theories. Based on the above mentioned theories, the author tries to construct a new teaching model for listening comprehension in senior high schools. This thesis consists of five parts:The introduction part discusses the background and the significance of this research.Chapter One makes a systematic study of the listening theories, including the definition of listening, the nature of listening and the elements affecting the effectiveness of listening.Chapter Two makes a thorough research on schema theories, including the definition of schema, the characteristics of schema, and three schemas related to listening comprehension.Chapter Three discusses the TBLE theories.Chapter Four constructs "a teaching model for listening comprehension in senior high schools based on schema and TBLE theories." and does an experiment to testify its effectiveness.Chapter Five draws a conclusion. It summarizes the whole paper and at the same time points out the limitations of this approach, with suggestions for further research and improvement.
