Xinjiang is a multi-ethnically inhabited region with cultural similarities and differences among ethnic peoples, which result in the associations and distinctions among them, too. . The acceptance and knowledge of things and events by different ethnic peoples vary due to their cultural differences. Therefore, the acceptance of homosexuality differs to various degrees also because of the cultural differences of ethnic peoples. To anthropologists, homosexuality exists in the different phases of humankind and in most of societies, people take a relatively tolerant attitude toward homosexuality. And still in other societies, homosexuality is widely regarded as a necessary ritual process in which individuals are to be grown up. And in general, many surveys by anthropologist suggest homosexuality is a universal social existence, which in turn reflects the cultural-diversity of the world.Though the subculture of gays of Xinjiang is similar to that of the gays in other provinces and regions of China, some differences are observed and it is assumed that it is more colorful and rich than that of the latter. And the interactions of cultures of the different ethnic peoples make the regional features Xinjiang gay culture more distinctive. The present paper, based on the data obtained by the author's filed work among gay-mates in Urumqi City, and applying related theories of ethnology, anthropology and sociology, attempts to analyze the differences of ethnic minority gay-mates in social interaction, self-identity, societal acknowledge ,and identities and the causes of the differences.
