English reading is the main tool of information input for the English language learners and it is one of the important learning skills. So it's significant to conduct research on reading strategy use both for English learning and reading. The new syllabus of high school English treats the ability of obtaining and handling information as one of the abilities that we should put great emphasis on. The stage of grade two in secondary school is a key period for secondary school students to learn English well. Most teachers and students pay attention to the teaching of reading comprehension, but students'reading ability has improved very slowly. As to this problem, this essay is aimed at doing the quantitative and qualitative reseach of reading strategies of grade two students in secondary school. The purpose is to know about the application of reading strategies in the reading process and put forward some practical recommendations according to my teaching practice and by means of reading literature.168 secondary school students participated in the investigation. The participants are from key classes and ordinary classes, so they can be the representatives of the secondary school students. The author used the questionnaire , interview and the reading comprehension test to examine the frequency and range of reading strategies use and the relationship between reading strategies use and the reading proficiency.The main conclusions are as follows:(1) Compared to other language learners at home and abroad, the reading strategies usage condition of senior two students is not satisfying. They use less reading strategies.(2) There is also a contrast of the strategy usage condition between girls and boys, successful students and unsuccessful students, which demonstrates that the former are better at using strategies than the latter in the use of cognitive strategies, meta-cognitive strategies.(3) The usage of reading strategies has a positive correlation with scores, of which the use of meta-cognitive strategies is relatively the main factor.(4) The teachers'awareness of applying reading strategies in teaching process is weak, their strategy knowledge needs enhancement.Based on the results and findings of the study , this paper puts forward some suggestions for the teaching of English reading in secondary school.(1) In order to improve the students'comprehensive English language abilities, the teachers and the students should have a strong sense of using reading strategies.(2) We should enhance the use of reading strategies of the unsuccessful students, especially the cognitive strategies and meta-cognitive strategies.(3) The teachers should pay attention to the difference between boys and girls in using reading strategies, give the boys more advice on how to develop their reading abilities.(4) The teachers should change their concept of teaching English reading, grasp the core content of reading and make full use of reading strategies to improve the students'reading ability.
