As we've known, reading is one of methods to get information for a foreign language learner. It is not only one of purposes in English learning, but also a difficulty in English teaching. Therefore, educating and raising the students' abilities of reading is so important.But in the process of reading, there are some reading barriers such as word barrier, psychological disorder, textual barrier etc. In the traditional teaching process, students lack motivation, teachers usually only focus on grammatical accuracy and attach importance to result of reading.This paper focuses on the importance of reading strategies which urges students to have reading motivation, improve their competence, take an active part in their reading class, and offer effective feedback to teachers. The author wants to prove reading strategies can effectively improve students'proficiency by reading strategies training.The thesis consists of seven parts. Chapter one briefly introduces the significance, characteristics and outlines, methods.Chapter two covers the theory of reading.Chapter three covers teaching goals of reading teaching in Curriculum Criterion in junior high schools and the students' reading barriers.Chapter four expounds the feasibility and the process of the instruction of reading strategies in English teaching in junior high school, demonstrates the stages and activities to the practical teaching.Chapter five expatiates on the experiment of reading strategies teaching and makes quantitative analysis and comparisons of instruction of reading.Chapter six makes comparisons of the results of three reading tests in details. There are three tests from the experimental class and control class. Simultaneously, the author makes two questionnaires before and after the experiment to realize differences of testees.Finally, in light of the experiment and investigative results, the author indicates both the advantages and weaknesses of this study.
