English writing is the synthetical expression which students use the knowledge of English. English writing, however, is the weak segment of the English education all the time. In addition, it is the aspect that many teachers overlook easily in teaching ideology. The author adopts the method of Error Analysis to provide of English with the developmental characteristics of learners'interlanguage as it goes through different stages. The study shows that the main task facing the teacher is to help students break away from fossilization and go closer to target language. Towards these, the author suggested some ways: (1) Promoting leaner motivation is important because learners are the ones that manipulate their study. (2) Using collocation as input unit in English teaching will be effective in dealing with some error types like SP (set phrase) (3) Eliminating errors caused by mother tongue carries the most gravity because 19 categories of errors are partly or completely caused by mother tongue interference (4) Correcting errors is also necessary in that students can improve their English proficiency more easily if they are aware of where and what their errors are. (5) Appropriate TL input and paying attention to particular aspects and uses of the TL are most significant for learners to eventually overcome fossilization. This thesis is composed of the following chapters. Chapter One states the background and significance of this study. Chapter Two reviews the concepts of the Interlanguage Theory, Fossilization and Error Analysis.
