Nature discourse can be separated into two lays: basic discourse and meta-discourse. And meta-discourse means "the discourse about discourse", which includes the pattern of basic proposition organization, evaluations of attitude, as well as the interpersonal communication and negotiation that the addresser construct consciously or unconsciously in the discourse. On the foundation of the theory of functional linguistics and pragmatics, this dissertation focuses on the meta-discourse markers in teachers' language in Chinese classes, the manifestations and functions of these markers have been discussed in details also.According to the analysis of the memoir of four famous teachers' language in Chinese classes, we devide the meta-discourse markers into two subcategories, textual meta-functional markers and interpersonal meta-functional markers, furthermore, we make a deeper devision about the two subcategories. This dissertation has also discussed the meaning and the benefit of the study on the teachers' language from the view of meta-discourse.This dissertation includes five sections.Section 1 introduces the subject investigated, the academic foundation and the arrangement of this dissertation. Section 2 lays out the simple history, notion, intension and characters of meta-discourse. Section 3 puts forth the study situation on a par with correlative discussion about the teachers' language in Chinese classes. Section 4 presents the main content of this dissertation. In this part, the meta-discourse markers in teachers' language in Chinese classes have been discussed, especially, the manifestations and functions of these markers will be discussed in details on the corpus of four famous teachers' memoir. Section 5 gives us a conclusion of this dissertation.
