At the beginning of the 21st century, our country started a huge project in the field of education—curriculum reform in primary education. With the implementation of the curriculum reform and the coming of the dialogue age, dialogue teaching, a new kind of teaching method which is different from traditional teaching, appears and quickly becomes a focus of people's attention and research. The paper attempts to apply dialogue to the ideological and moral course in junior high schools and, under the direction of the dialogue theory, explores a way to improve the teaching effectiveness of the ideological and moral course, with the characteristics of the course taken into consideration.The paper is made up of four parts.The first part: overview of dialogue teaching. Based on the comprehensive understanding of dialogue, this part attempts to explore the basic contents of dialogue teaching and analyze the main characteristics and theoretical base of dialogue teaching.The second part: feasibility and significance of carrying out dialogue teaching in the ideological and moral course in junior high schools. Dialogue teaching reflects the time spirit of dialogue. As the main means of school moral teaching, the ideological and moral course, combined with dialogue, will make a new teaching style. This part analyses the feasibility and significance of carrying out dialogue teaching in the ideological and moral course in junior high schools.The third part: analysis of the problems in applying dialogue teaching and the reasons. The teacher is the key to carrying out dialogue teaching. In practice, we have found that a lot of problems exist in applying dialogue teaching because of teachers' inadequate understanding of the theory and limitations of their capability. This part deals with the above-mentioned problems and the main reasons for them.The fourth part: apply dialogue teaching to the ideological and moral course in junior high schools. That is the most important part of the paper. The following four aspects are dealt with: firstly, the principles of carrying out dialogue teaching; secondly, the forms of carrying out dialogue teaching; thirdly, the strategies of carrying out dialogue teaching; finally, the requirements of carrying out dialogue teaching.It goes without saying that any theory has its limitations in terms of its value and function. The theory of dialogue teaching is by no means perfect, either. It has some difficulty in guiding us out of teaching tight corners, which indicates that the teaching research is not completed. The concept of dialogue provides us with a new angle for our research. The most fundamental change is updating the teaching ideas in the ideological and moral course and helping us find an original way to teach the ideological and moral course in junior high schools.
