| The Length Approach, initiated by Professor Wang Churning from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, is a brand-new approach of write-to-learn. Its validity has been testified by many empirical studies in different universities and fully confirmed by many famous experts and learners in English teaching field. However, it is uncertain whether it is feasible to apply the Length Approach to the high school. Actually, few people have concerned and testified it so far. So the aim of this thesis is to demonstrate that the Length Approach can be applied to English teaching in high schools. Thus not only students' writing ability, but also their all-around abilities can be improved by a large scale. This thesis adopts the study ways of the literature survey and experiment.First, it analyzes the current situation of English writing teaching in high school at present and emphasizes the importance of English writing teaching. And then by commenting the idea and advantages of "the Length Approach", it expounds the feasibility of applying it to the students of high schools. After that the thesis introduces the concrete experiment, in Class 8, Senior 1, Pucheng No. 1 Middle School in the past year, followed by the analysis of the relevant data from the experiment. Finally, it generates the following major findings: 1) In the experimental group, "the Length Approach" not only enhance the self-confidence of students' writing, but change their attitudes toward the writing. And they are not as nervous as before. 2) The experimental group made greater improvement in their integrated writing ability. They write more fluently and accurately than those of CG do. Actually we find that some average students and inefficient students' writing ability improves more quickly. 3) The overall English proficiency of the experimental group has been promoted faster than that of the control one. Correspondingly, those average students and inefficient students have made more significant progress with their English proficiency as well. 4) Most of the students' attitudes toward the LA are affirmative. And the idea of the LA accords with the new ideas advocated by the New National Curriculums. It is worth popularizing in other ordinary senior schools. Meanwhile, the thesis also puts forward some problems to be solved in the future, e.g., how to design more appropriate writing tasks and how to choose the best examples for students to imitate. |
