Chinese basic knowledge plays an important role in Chinese teaching in both primary school and middle school. The contents of Chinese basic knowledge includes: Pinyin, characters, words, sentences and rhetoric. For children with mild intellectual deficiency who study in regular class, learning Chinese basic knowledge can help to improve their Chinese ability, and contributes to learning other subjects. More important, by learning Chinese basic knowledge, their language skills and communication ability will also advance, which is an advantage for them to integrate into the society.The objects of this research are students with mild intellectual deficiency studying in Shanghai regular primary schools from Grade Three to Grade Five. Based on 661 students' Chinese test papers, including 217 students with mild intellectual deficiency studying in regular schools and 444 normal students' test papers, we study on the level of their Chinese basic knowledge.We have the results that, the level of Chinese basic knowledge by students with mild intellectual deficiency is low. Among characters, words and sentences, words are the easiest to learn, while sentences are the most difficult. In the part of literacy and lettering, the students are good at lettering rules, but not good at literacy or lettering. In the part of words, they do best in understanding the meaning of the words, then accumulating words, and last applying words. In the part of sentences, all the students with mild intellectual deficiency can't do a good job in each item, nevertheless, their scores on sentences goes up slowly as their grades grow up.
