Foreigners In Cities Of China: Study On Living Status, Cultural Adaptation And Transcultural Interaction

With the ongoing Globalization, transcultural study has become one important field in social science study, in which transcultural communication, transcultural Acculturation are the main focuses. In retrospect of China's research and literature in this field for the past 20 years, the main features are: First, studies are mostly limited in linguistic, communicational, educational analysis, however, sociological and social psychological studies are rarely seen; Second, the Methodology applied are mainly the main lies in speculative analysis, however, empirical analysis with quantitative and qualitative methods are not adequately used; Third, the research objectives are mainly Chinese immigrants in foreign countries, even some latest research has concerned about the foreign students in China, however, the studies respecting foreigners in China, especially those from different nationalities, cultural background, social status etc. are comparatively less.Combining the survey on "Survey on Foreigners' Condition in Xiamen", "Survey on Cultural Distance between Chinese and Foreigners" and the observation and interview on 8 different foreigners, the study starts from the analysis on life condition, Acculturation, Transcultural Interaction of foreigners in Xiamen, and tries to find out the factors influencing the acculturation, transcultural interaction. The Result shows that, the external culture environment of the host society determines the degree of acceptance of foreign culture; on the other hand, foreigners' different internal features decide the attitude to the host culture, both the external and internal factors will have the impact on the transcultural interaction strategy and acculturation strategy, thereby, different acculturation results are received.In this study, empirical methodology is applied, including quantitative analysis on 2 surveys and the qualitative analysis based on case study, aiming at jumping out side of the general "Cultural Stereotype" analysis, analyzing the transcultural interaction and acculturation, by characterizing details of foreigners' life in China from different aspects and finding out the right transcultural interactive and acculturation strategy.
