On the background of the international and domestic economic and social development,as well as driven by the knowledge-based economy,China has launched the latest round of curriculum reform.Profound changes,in the aspect of new ideas, new standards,new teaching concepts and methods,new teaching materials as well as new evaluation methods,can be witnessed in this reform,which bring unprecedented challenges for the teachers and students.As a result,collisions and conflicts between the new teaching and the traditional ones occur frequently,taking bad effect for the current teaching to adapt to the need of the reform.Therefore,in order to make Senior English teaching and learning in Sichuan province be more fully prepared for the coming curriculum reform and also with the hope of making the reform move smoothly and fruitfully in Sichuan,this paper first finds out the existing disparities between the current teaching and the teaching standards initiated by the Senior English Curriculum Standards(Experimental).After this,related reasons for the existing problems are illustrated in an effort to put forward the principles and strategies to enhance the adoptability of Senior English teaching and learning in Sichuan province.Four parts are incorporated in this paper:Part One:IntroductionAt the outlet,an overview of the research purpose,study scope and its content are mentioned;and then,the paper defines some important concepts and talks about the origin and significance of this research;what's more,on the basis of exploring the literature review and its meaning for this paper,the needs for further research can be induced from this;at last,this part expresses the key points,difficulties,innovations of this paper as well as its research ideas and methods.Part Two:the Investigation and Analysis of the Status QuoFirst of all,it describes the design of the questionnaires,the selection of the sample and the processing of the data;and then,under the standards of the New Curriculum, such areas as the attitude towards the new curriculum reform,the understanding of the new curriculum standards,the current teaching concepts,behaviors,contents,the teachers and the students'comments on the teaching materials as well as the evaluation system are discussed in this part.Part Three:the Existing Problems and Its ReasonsAfter carefully studying the questionnaires and also with the help of field interviews,the paper finds out some problems in teaching and learning concepts, teaching abilities,teaching materials and teaching evaluation system.At the same time, the reasons for those problems can be identified.Part Four:ConclusionThis part first put forward some principles for Sichuan province to follow during the implementation of the curriculum reform,followed by some proposals and strategies to the new curriculum-makers,English standards-makers,administrative departments and school headmasters,teachers,students,parents as well as communities.
