Vocabulary is the most basic and critical part of language learning. The improvement of listening,speaking,reading and writing lies greatly on vocabulary.However,both learners and teachers in high schools know few vocabulary learning strategies,which results in the slow progress in English learning.In order to deal with the problems of "time consuming and low efficiency" in vocabulary learning,the writer of the paper thinks that there is a great need to train the learners on certain vocabulary learning strategies.So the present paper focuses on vocabulary learning strategies training,based on the related former researches both home and abroad.In the light of the new curriculum standard,the study recommends a vocabulary learning strategies training course mainly on cognitive strategies.Strategy training refers to the awareness-raising of learners' understanding on language learning.By organizing the training course within 14-week daily teaching,training the students to learn to use strategies of Mnemonic Association,Guessing in context to facilitate their vocabulary learning,the trainer means to discover the effect of the vocabulary learning strategy training on the students' vocabulary learning efficiency.Subiects of the study were 106 secondary students in No.6 Senior High School,Liaoning Province,in which 55 students in an art class were participants in a strategy-based instruction group,and another 51 students in science class were comparison students receiving the ordinary instruction.In the research,a questionnaire,pre-interview and post-diaries,pre- and post-test were used in the evaluation of the training.The result of the study indicates that the training course is practical and effective and is suitable for Chinese senior high school students in their vocabulary learning.
