In the process of learning English, vocabulary has always been an essential and important part. Mastering some vocabulary learning strategies is helpful to vocabulary learning. Nowadays, many English teachers in senior high schools still do not have systematic vocabulary teaching strategies, nor do they develop an awareness to apply vocabulary strategies to teaching process. And during everyday English vocabulary learning in senior high schools, students are seldom taught some effective vocabulary learning strategies, so to certain extent, vocabulary learning is considered as a boring task and it is a waste of time and effort. The majority of students lack effective methods of vocabulary learning, which results in students‘ lack of enthusiasm for active English vocabulary learning. Students show less motivation and confidence in English vocabulary learning. In view of reasons all above, the writer earnestly reads other related research, combining her ten years of English teaching experience with senior high students‘ vocabulary learning habits, because she attempts to apply association strategy to English vocabulary teaching in order to help students master effective vocabulary learning strategies and improve their vocabulary learning ability and confidence in English vocabulary learning.The writer‘s current research attempts to address the following questions:1.What is the present situation of senior high students‘ English vocabulary learning?2. How to apply association strategies to vocabulary teaching and learning?3. Is the application of vocabulary association learning strategies helpful in improving students‘ vocabulary learning efficiency?The writer made an experiment on the application of association strategy to 100 students vocabulary learning. The 100 students are from 2 classes(experimental class and control class). And in experimental class, the students were taught to apply association strategy to vocabulary learning. And in control class, English vocabulary was taught in usual ways. Then the writer tested students to find out the effect of association strategies on the vocabulary learning. Through questionnaire, experiments and tests, the writer finds that vocabulary association strategies are scientific and effective for senior high school students. The application of these strategies can make students develop an awareness of vocabulary learning strategies. By using some vocabulary learning methods, students will improve their vocabulary learning ability and memory ability. Association strategies can expand students‘ vocabulary, arouse their interest in vocabulary learning, and enhance the confidence to learn English well.
