With the rapid penetration of globalization nowadays, culture has become a more and more important source of national cohesion and creativity and a factor of growing significance in the competition in overall national strength. Every country attaches great importance to culture. In China,"promoting vigorous development and prosperity of socialist culture"was listed as one of the focus of government work during the 17th National Congress. What 5000 years of Chinese culture in need of is an appropriate mode of transmission, instead of essence or content. We know that game playing is a human instinct. Online game as a new medium is drawing people's increasing attention due to its various characteristics. This thesis will discuss how to make full use of online game for excellent culture transmission in a delightful way.The thesis constitutes a total of six chapters. Chapter one makes a general introduction to the study, including research background, objectives, and methods; and describes the status quo of online games study.Chapter Two to Five as the main body of this thesis conduct a comprehensive study on online games and Chinese traditional culture, analyze features of both and expound the possibility of culture transmission through role-play online games, based on which some suggestions are put forward for a better performance. In Chapter Six, a case study is made on how to infiltrate Chinese traditional culture into online games, taking role-play game—QQ free fantasy as an example.Chapter Seven focuses on the major findings of this research and prospects on the development of online games in the future.
