Research On Strategy Of Teacher Union's Affecting Teacher Professional Development In The USA

In America, one of the important features is that there are kinds of professional organizations, and these professional organizations representing different interests have a wide and profound influence in the social life of people. As representing teachers'interests in America education, Teacher Unions exerts a strong impetus to teacher professional development by changing timely their objectives, adjusting constantly the operation of the means, and taking the appropriate strategy. The thesis selects the two greatest Teacher Unions-the National Education Association (called NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (called AFT) as a case, and investigates related strategies that effecting teacher professional development. The thesis carries on such research in order to offer successful examples and valuable experiences which promote the construction and development of Teacher Union in our country, at same time we can acquire the means of designing and implementing about effective strategy.The study can be divided into five parts.The introduction briefly gives the reasons to choose this topic, summarizes related research on Teacher Unions of America in our country and foreign country, describes the design of this study.Part one outlines Teacher Unions and its strategies. About Teacher Unions, this part introduces the concept, the type, the dependency basis, and the function. About strategies, this part presents tactics of direct contact and indirect contact.Part two takes an example of the two most influential Teacher Unions-the National Education Association (called NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (called AFT), briefly outlines the profiles, the type, the dependency strength and the function about them.Part three demonstrates related strategies effecting teacher professional development. This part details and analyzes the reasons that Teacher Unions draw up strategies, the specific strategies and the implementation, the effectiveness and problems. This is the key part of article.Part four makes reflections on related strategies effecting teacher professional development, sums up valuable experiences and inspirations:taking strategies which based on teacher career, emphasizing scientific research and cooperation, paying close attention on external factors affecting teacher professional development, mobilizing the enthusiasm of teachers, teacher-centered to strengthen scientific research, focusing on the role of professional unions.
