Traditional teaching of English reading in high schools tends to emphasize grammar and vocabulary, ignoring the practical use of the English language. Discussing the purpose of English reading lessons in the high school and the problems with them, the thesis attempts to improve the efficiency of classroom teaching of reading by focusing on one of the teaching steps - "Post-reading Activities".Based on a summary of main problems with the present post-reading activities, the research analyzes the main factors that affect post-reading activities. It also explores the significance of post-reading activities for the teaching of reading in light of "Tasked-based Teaching Approach". Besides, the thesis introduces some activities easy to operate in class as references for high-school English teachers. A two-term experiment report on post-reading activities is presented to illustrate that effective post-reading activities can improve the teaching quality of reading lessons and students' overall ability to use English.
