Research Objectives:In 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the Chinese Men's Basketball Team put on six wonderful performances for the whole nation in Beijing Wukesong sports center. But finally the team got 4-2 victory and halted eight without achieving a breakthrough in the history again. Every team of the final eight had the outstanding capabilities of attack and defense. In contrast, the Chinese team with Yao Ming, Wang Zhizhi, Yi Jianlian and other good post players had reached a world first-class team level of the attack strength inside. However, the performance of the Chinese men's basketball guard was not satisfactory. Although at this Olympics, Sun Yue, as a guard, made well defensive performance, the defensive ability of guard players was still relatively weak as the Chinese team's first line of defence. This paper analyses comparison of defence between Chinese men's basketball guard and their opponent from several aspects of the index. The several aspects are abilities of defence of the guard with and without ball, competition for defensive rebounding, situation of coorperation using defence. So it is designed to identify difference and weaknesses in defence of on-the-spot game of members of Chinese men's basketball guard, which can provide theoretical guidance for their trainning ang competition in order to improve Chinese men's basketball competitive level and promote developmemt of the whole team.Research Approach:This paper adopts literature review, videotape observation, contrastive analysis and other research methods in the cource of study. Research Results:Through comparative analysis, we found:(1) There is a gap in aspects of the ability to realize the anti-pass, anti-dribble, anti-shooting, anti-break and so on between Chinese guards and their opponents.(2) There is a gap in aspects of goal attempts of cutting the ball, anti-shake off, shake off the ball to catch the ball and between the guard of the Chinese team and their opponents.(3) National guard members are superior to rivals in defensive rebounding such as the number of block and non-blocking access to grab the number and the total number of defensive rebounds.(4) Outside players of Chinese Team are weak in defensive awareness with the use of defensive tactics, reluctant filling-in, lack of tacit agreement and pertinence between members of and relevance when launching a pincer attack.
