Tradition-sport-schools are defined as common elementary schools, middle schools and vocational-technical schools (containing private schools but not secondary specialized schools), which for many years not only have shown extensive mass base and good sports level, trained excellent athlete candidates for key amateur schools, sports schools, sports teams, first-class athlete teams and universities, but also have enabled all the above advantages to become a tradition. In our country, tradition-sport-schools were established in 1980s, and improved or developed along with the development of China sports education innovation. Many education departments worked hard and positively to establish a development route with Chinese characteristics for tradition-sport-schools with the purpose of allowing tradition-sport-schools to become the base of training national grade athlete candidates even the cornerstone for Chinese competitive sport to reach the first-class level all over the world.The development of tradition-sport-schools have long been paid much attention by physical educators, and their development routes, development directions and athlete training programs are all the key points of discussion. In 2003, Shanxi Physical Bureau and Shanxi Education Department worked together and issued《The Program of Examination and Grade for Tradition-Sport-Schools in Shanxi Province》, which made schools pay more attention to traditional sport, encouraged schools to develop sports events more positively, and promoted a new innovation for tradition-sport-schools. Tradition-sport-schools encountered many problems in the process of education innovation. Therefore, the current paper was presented to solve problems on how to develop tradition-sport-schools, innovate the current training systems, remove contradiction between training and studying, improve the training on athlete candidates and allow athletes to develop better.The current paper completely investigated, analyzed and summarized the development situation of traditional sport in 12 tradition-sport-schools (4 elementary schools and 8 middle schools) located in Datong through questionnaire, interview talking, literature research and statistics. The analysis and investigation were finished by comparing hardware, software, sports programs, financial supports, development situation and other impact factors among tradition-sport-schools. It was shown from the investigation that tradition-sport-schools in Datong had some problems in the development of traditional sports events. Firstly, the hardware in tradition-sport-schools was not set up completely due to the lack of physical exercise equipments. Second, the program arrangement of traditional sport was not appropriate, and it was also limited. Besides, the continuous development of traditional sport from elementary schools to middle schools was not good, even there was a"faultage". Third, there was no enough financial support, and the pathway to obtain financial support was so limited. Financial support was mainly from government administration finance and the department of physical education. While the financial assistance from companies or enterprises was very little. Forth, some leaders didn't pay enough attention and regulations were unsound. Influenced by examination-orientated education, entering to higher schools and entrance examination to universities, physical education could hardly obtain the concern from school leaders. Even there were many differences on the welfare between physical teachers and non-physical teachers. In addition, the school administration mode was not flexible. Fifth, the software exhibited deficiency, including the following aspects: the training level of physical teachers was relatively low; the training experience of young physical teachers was not enough; there were no scientific selection and examination methods when selecting excellent athletes; training mode was relatively traditional. In order to provide helpful suggestion on the development of traditional sport in tradition-sport-schools of Datong, we proposed related strategies and methods based on the investigation and analysis of all above problems.
