Secondary education is a key stage in which students develop their language competence, such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. For most middle school students, English teaching classroom is the main place in which students can know about the English culture, learn the English knowledge and use English. Because of lack of the language environment, English classroom becomes the important source for students to learn the language. This kind of teacher's teaching language can be called teacher talk. To some extent, the teacher talk can influence the results of the students'language acquisition. Therefore, it is very important to discuss how to initiate the teacher talk to insure English learning quality.Firstly, this paper will introduce the background, purposes, meanings and the main questions of this research and the notion, types and characteristics of teacher talk.In the second part this paper will focus on some relevant theories and the research on teacher talk home and abroad. Then it will introduce the theory of language acquisition and the relationship between teacher talk and language acquisition.The third part is mainly about the experimental research Two teachers of English' and their classes in Jilin No.l Senior High School will be taken as the research sample of this paper. The methods adopted in this paper include: classroom observation, interview and questionnaire. This study aims to explore the present state of teacher talk in middle high schools and analyze their effects on students' language acquisition.In the forth part this paper puts forward some suggestions of improving the influence of teacher talk in English class of high school.The last part comes into the research conclusions and some suggestions for the future research.Through recording and transcription of classroom observations, interviews and questionnaires, we know that, comparing with the traditional classroom teaching, the current teacher talk in classroom improve a lot. They pay more attention to the students'language acquisition factors. But we still find some problems and need to make some improvement and perfection of the amount of teacher talk, the quality of teacher talk, questioning, interaction modification and teachers'feedback and so on. We need to arouse the students'interest and motivation of learning English, create a better language learning environment and provide more opportunities of communication in English, therefore the students can have better input, output and interaction modification, improve their language using competence and finally enhance the English teaching quality at middle schools.
