Along with the acceleration of globalization and social progress, mastering the global language English is becoming increasingly important. Vocabulary, as one of the three elements of languages (Pronunciation, Vocabulary, Grammar), has become the core of English learning and an important criterion for measuring the level of English. During the process of pushing forward China's basic education curriculum reform, teachers realize that a large number of vocabularies and complex meanings of words have become the bottleneck of English learning. Importantly, most of the new words are contained in each reading article. For a large quantity of reading, you must have mastered a lot of words and vice versa. The reading and vocabulary complement each other and interact as both cause and effect.During the practicum, I found that most of the English teachers were not clear about how to systematically teach the vocabulary in the reading passage or which words to be selected for instruction. Some teachers treat the vocabulary as isolated and specific unit or teach the words out of context. Therefore, this paper focuses on investigating the status quo of vocabulary teaching in reading class, discovering the teaching problems and giving countermeasures. The content of this thesis has five parts: The first part is the introduction, including how the question of this research is raised, what researches have been done both abroad and home, the value of the research and research methodology. The second part is the summary of relative theories, including the theories of vocabulary teaching and teaching vocabulary in reading class. The third part is the design of the research, including the aim of research, the object of research, the research process, and data collection and analysis. The fourth part is the analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the data from questionnaires. The fifth part is the suggestions for improvements.
