Analysis And Improvement Of Some Problems In Computer-based Oral Testing

Since computer-based oral testing is relatively easy to be implemented comparing to traditional oral testing. It can save a lot of human and material resources to enable the large-scale oral testing to become reality. This paper carries out study on the some problems in computer-based oral testing. The reason of the research is to conduct research and analysis on existing system of oral computer testing, identify problems and deficiencies, improve system to make oral testing to be more effective and easier to be deployed and implemented.First, the author makes research on status quo of existing domestic and international traditional oral testing and computer-based oral test. Base on research, the author makes comparison between these two types of oral testing. Second, the author makes use of automatic score subsystem in the existing system of oral test questions to conduct computer experiments. Then, the author conducts discussion and analysis on the problems which are encountered during the deployment and implementation of the testing.The results show that: 1) Oral computer test adds new question forms, but it still remains a gap between the traditional oral testing in the aspect of realism in interactive mode. 2) Computer automatic scoring system of reading problem is slow and it is not conducive to large-scale application; it has higher requirements on quality of the recordings. 3) The existing oral test system is more time-consuming in deployment and implementation, for example, it requires managers to manually install the test software in each computer and they need to test headset, microphone and other equipment in the engine room before exam in turn to view their availability.According to above problems and research findings, the author designs the improvement program of oral test and system. Oral test program increases the camera which can make candidates to achieve real-time communication by the manner of group discussion and examination. This will increase realism of oral test; it makes use of a large number of computers which candidates use in the exam to pre-score on answer, so that the auto rates time can be reduced by 98%; it makes automated testing on sound equipment, make test automation installation of exam process, reduce the workload of deployment and implementation; make testing on the sound quality to reduce the poor recording quality. The program has achieved good results in application.
