Advanced vocational education which belongs to the category of high education and has features of vocational education is an important component part of our country's high education. It's intended for educating talent with high professional qualifications, which requires that the teachers not only have the common features of teachers from colleges and universities, but also have their own teaching characteristics. Therefore, building a teaching body of the type of Academic-Practical Teacher, namely the qualified, employment-oriented teachers with solid theoretical knowledge and rich practical experience is a foundation for senior vocational schools'survival and development.This paper starts from the study of this type of teachers'connotation and points out the necessity of building this type of teaching body for senior vocational schools. It takes several senior vocational schools in Shanxi Province as the objects of study to collect demonstration data, by the means of document consultation, questionnaire survey and interviewing method and so on. 700 questionnaires in all have been given out, with 692 valid ones returned. The teachers and relevant leaders in the related schools have been interviewed on telephone or face to face about the questions in the questionnaires, only to find out some problems. The number of part-time and full-time Academic-Practical Teachers is small and the structure is not reasonable. The quality of the teaching body is poor—some have less understanding and unclear conceptions and the systems of evaluation, education and incentive are not perfect. The paper shows a comprehensive analysis and study on the causes of the problems, uses the successful experience of others home and abroad as a source of reference and all motivation theories from the human resource management theories in order to find out the corresponding solutions to the problems and put forward countermeasures and suggestions, such as transiting people's conceptions, deepening people's understanding, establishing and perfecting the system combining qualification authentification, assessment of professional titles, with incentive and evaluation, increase fund input, designing reasonable major field and education model and strengthening the cooperation between the schools and enterprises for building this type of teaching body in Shanxi Province.
