The project of the calendar 1C in our VLSI Design Center is to develop a typical large scale integrate circuit chip for a HongKong semiconductor .industry company, is the first commercial VLSI product with our own independent property rights which has a wide market perspective. The accomplishment of the chip design is a symbol that the design and development ability of our design center has reached a higher level.The calendar 1C has many functions, such as: Time display, Alarm clock, Counter down, World-time searching, 8-bit digit calculator and so on. Its circuit structure is very complex and its chip area is restricted severely by the client. After having analyzed the theory of the calculator circuit thoroughly, the author made use of the characteristic of the calendar circuit and put forward a new design method, namely replacing the static circuit with the dynamic circuit to reduce the area of whole chip. Now the author has finished the design of the calendar circuit and accomplished the layout design with the full-custom method.Most of the circuit structures met in calendar schematic and the fundamental idea of analysis and design of the sequential circuit are discussed in this paper and the operation principle and the design method are analyzed from two points, one is the circuit theory of all the modules, the other is how the whole system works. The paper also expounds the design method-and the design flow of the 1C by the numbers through real examples.
