The traditional concentrated project for backup depends on IP network as data route, so only transmited data will cause bandwidth saturation. The result is period of backup often excesses preplanned time. For solving the problem in concentrated backup, those computer scientists brought forward a new type of network conception, that is Storage Area Network (SAN).The SAN makes it true that storage resources can be devided from servers, and can provide high performance data pipe with 100 MB/s and shared storage devices managed concentrically. This makes data access, backup and restore will not reduce performance of network largely. This removes people抯 misgiving for bandwidth of network. Simultaneously, the SAN based on Fibre Channel-Arbitrated Loop(FC-AL) has conveniece, expansibility, high fault tolerated ability, high reliability and agility of configuration, and supports heterogeneous servers such as UNIX, NT and NetWare to link at the same time so as to be able to reduce total holding cost.Currently, Many foreign large corporations and research organizations have done a lot of research work in storage managing system based SAN. And Some commercial systems have been worked out by and by. However, domestic research has not been deployed in this field, saying nothing of products. For this reason, the author analyses and studies storage managing system based SAN, and has attained some accomplishment.The storage managing system based on SAN, iStorageManager, which is developed on Windows NT series by us, has referred to the same product on UNIX developed by NEC. It is a mangement configuration system with complete functions. It provides with abilities of detecting broken_down of network devices and separating automatically, data management, storage resources management, security management and file management.We have maken use of a lot of good characteristics of Windows NT on the development of the iSM system, adopted numerous new technologies, and used advanced instrument to test according to software engineering. This improves whole performance and running efficiency of the system greatly. From the procedure of developing the system, the author has acquired many new ideas and methods so that the independent working ability and diathesis oneself are increased awfully.
