This thesis focuses on a driving system for mobile hard disk of USB based on Windows 2000 operating system. This driving system can support the mobile hard disk of USB to work on the Windows 2000 platform and satisfy various operations of hard disk, including format of the mobile hard disk, multi-partition, input, output and running of applications, hence have great reliability, security, and extension.The hardware structure of the mobile hard disk of USB and the working principles of the existing driving system on Windows 98 operating system are analyzed in this thesis. Then the reasons why the existing driving system fails to support the mobile hard disk of USB to work on the Windows 2000 platform are found out. Accordingly, innovations are proposed based on a new driving system called WDM (Windows Driver Model), in order that the mobile hard disk of USB can work on the platform of Windows 2000 operating system. Function and performance index, reliability, security and extension of the driving system on Windows 2000 platform are defined. Then, plans of mobile hard disk of the driving system are presented, including the development approach and integrated structure. Further more, the sub modules of the driving system are detailed.Windows 2000 DDK, Visual C++ 6.0 and DebugPrint etc. are utilized to develop the three modules of the driveing system: Ezmon.Sys, Usbide.Sys and Usbide.Inf. The three modules are used to download the firmware, support the Plug & Play of the device, reply to the operating instructions to the hard disk and install drivers. To realize these functions, technologies of WDM, theories of Windows Plug & Play, technologies of RAMDISK and the USB Specification Revision 1.1 are used.After all the modules have been developed, unit tests are performed, followed by detailed tests for the security, reliability and performance of the integrated driving system.Finally, advantages and disadvantages of this system are summarized, and possible solutions are put forward.
