With the rapid development of semiconductor, digital integrated circuit (μP, memory, standard logic gates, etc.) and advance computer technology, the various measuring instruments (virtual instruments) with the powerful function of PC are produced in different industrial and scientific research fields. As we all known, the traditional instruments are usually built with discrete components and small scale ICs, the disadvantages are obvious in system design, debugging and maintenance. With the help of newly developed advance Electronics Design Automation (EDA) technology, some roles and tens or hundreds of components of traditional instruments could be replaced or redesigned by means of large scale programmable logic chip (CPLD/FPGA) with the characters of the high integration, designed with HDL(Hardware Description Language) and supporting IAP(In Application Programming) and ISP(In System Programming ).The thesis introduces the hardware and software design skills of a new type Multi-Channel Pulse Amplitude Analyzer (MCA) based on FPGA chip and Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP) interface. The main technical points are as follows:a. Working principle and process of this system.b. Front stage analog signal processing circuit.c. Designs on FPGA chip.d. Analog-to-digital signals conversion technology.e. EPP interface technology.f. VxD device driver programs under Windows environment.g. Application of the system.h. Debugging result and conclusion.
