The ISO/MPEG-Audio Layer III digital audio compression scheme is the most powerful of the three audio compression algorithms standardized in ISO/MPEG DIS-111 72. Even at very low bit-rate of only 64kb/s, Layer III is one of the most excellent compression tools for applications such as real-time network radio and high fidelity music. This paper describes a study on algorithm simulation of MPEG/Audio Compression Layer III . The outcome of C language implementation is introduced. Coding at 64 kbps. per channel, and the result from TI's software simulator in CCS (Code Composer Studio) is given, putting forward the principles and difficulties of realization of this algorithm. The recovered music signal is very close to the original signal and they are difficult to tell apart. In this paper a scheme of real-time implementation for this algorithm is discussed. The space of memory and operational quantity are estimated by used fixed point DSP with high performance and low price, and some ways for real-time optimization are given, which are based on the characteristics of the selected DSP.
