As an excellent mathematical analytical tool, wavelet transform attract intensive concern. The technology of wavelet image compression is well developed. There still exists research aspect to be further studied in wavelet video coding.Generally, wavelet video coding technology are divided into two kinds: motion compensated wavelet residue coding and 3-D wavelet video coding. The 3-D wavelet coding demonstrates prominent characteristic in scalable bit-rate output, and becomes research focus.After a period of systematically research on 3-D wavelet video codec which contains motion compensated technology, some valuable outcomes have been made as following:1.The primary weakness of the current 3-D wavelet video codec lies in the temporal filter. To improve the performance of 3-D wavelet video codec, a new temporal wavelet filter based on motion compensated and lifting scheme is proposed in this thesis.2.A 3-D wavelet video codec is realized here, which is based on the new video framework. The result of research turns out that this video codec has a good performance in the case of medium and high bit-rate. And it can provide accuracy bit-rate control and embedded coding function.
