Since the 21st century, great changes in manufacturing industry accelerated the development of product market from unitary and mass production to plural and individualized production in which each item is made to order. Many original manufacturing technologies are emerging one after another. Those traditional fixtures suitable for mass production cannot adapt to the new manufacturing modes. Domestic and foreign researchers paid their focus on those more flexible, effective and general fixtures. In according with the above-mentioned problems, Professor Li Beizhi put forward an untraditional technology of workpiece installation and a general fixture system with Initiative Location and State Memory (IL&SM). This paper focuses on the core part of the IL&SM Fixture System -Information Process System (IPS).After relevant information is obtained from the current part, IPS designs the roughcast and the parameters of stuffing, matches or designs rational locating box, positions all the locating bolt, finishes the procedure of datum conversion and ensures the communications between State Shaping System, Part Fixing System and NC Programming System.This paper first introduces the system design procedure of IPS, which analyzed its core importance, working flow and major functions, and then determines its software developing platform and data structure. Secondly, through optimization, the structure of locating box is determined to keep the matrix basic board inside. Thirdly, some key technologies in IPS are discussed, including artificial intelligence and the algorithm of datum conversion. Lastly, the detailed design procedure is brought forward, which consists of the design of database, the parameterized design and matching of locating box, design of roughcast and its fixing in the locating box, design and management of stuffing, communications between all subsystems, intelligent positioning of locating bolts and management of IPS. In addition a use case is provided to demonstrate the application of IPS.
