Wavelet image coding has become a prospective image compression method with the fast development of wavelet analysis in recent years.The integer-to-integer wavelet transform (IWT) based on lifting scheme and the scalable image coding are discussed. First, the general situation of still image coding is introduced. Second, the advantages and disadvantages of the image coding based on traditional wavelet transform are discussed. The method of constructing reversible IWT using lifting scheme is presented. So an image coding method using IWT in place of traditional wavelet transform is put forward. Third, the quantization of wavelet coefficients based on the embedded zerotree wavelet (EZW) is discussed and some improvement is made to it. Finally, this paper brings forward a scalable image coding method based on IWT and the improved zerotree quantization, which can realize lossless to lossy image compression, more simple computing, and higher-quality reconstructed image compared with image coding method based on traditional wavelet transform. The experimental results are satisfying. |
