The Medical Image Compression Applied Research Based On The Integer Wavelet Transform

With the quick development of information technology, PACS is more and more noticeable which is the core in the digitalized hospital. The memory space of large capacity is needed to store the mass medical picture data in the system, and one of the factors deciding the transmission speed is the size of the picture data when the picture is transmitted. How to solve the archiving and transmission problem of medical pictures is the point in PACS. Fortunately, the effective compression of the medical pictures is one of the key.Now, the JPEG standard based on the DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) algorithm is adopt widely in PACS, which can only be applied in the limited areas. With the birth and widely use of the JPEG2000, a new still image compression standard based on the wavelet transform, how to make full use of the wavelet transform in the medical image compression is the focus.The integer wavelet transform based on the Lifting Scheme for the medical picture compression is discussed and has better effect than the others in this paper.
