With distribution of USB2.0 specification and the speed of USB2.0 reaching to 480Mbps, the applications of USB are greatly extended. Nowadays, USB have become a standard interface of PC, and many computer devices are switching to use USB interface. A complete USB system consists of host controller, USB hub and device controller. This paper concerns with how to design an ASIC of device controller which fulfill USB2.0 specification.According to High Level Design (HLD) method, the design process of an ASIC can be divided into three stages: design system, synthesize and optimize, achieve. In general, the design flow conforms to top-down procedure. In accordance with the HLD and referring many other successful design of USB controller, this paper designed structure of the USB device controller, described it by Verilog HDL, simulated its function in QUARTUS n, at last, accomplished configuration of the ASIC in an FPGA chip. The HLD method and USB2.0 specification are introduced detailedly in this paper, because they are theory basis of this design, the main tools used in the paper are also presented briefly. The process of design this ASIC is main work of my paper, so the most part is used to introduce the process of my design in detail. The last part explains how to implement the design with Quartus II and FPGA.
